Rooms with high ceilings can be tricky to furnish. The brief was to prevent this expansive, double-height space from feeling empty, while beautifully connecting it to the architectural style of the rest of the home. We needed a design statement that could comfortably handle the grand scale of the roof apex while maintaining a warm, residential feel.
To create that connection, we carried the black slatted ash cabinetry from the kitchen through to the lounge, cladding the entire double-height media wall. It draws the eye right up to the ceiling, transforming a standard TV wall into a dramatic architectural feature that anchors and holds the whole room together.
The custom slatted wall does an incredible job of integrating technology, allowing wires and media units to disappear entirely behind the wood. But look down at the cool terrazzo floor and you’ll find a structural glass panel looking straight into a spiral wine cellar—a brilliant, unexpected feature that adds a touch of drama to the room.
Paired with low-slung furniture and high-end audio, the space perfectly balances its grand architectural proportions with a relaxed, intimate atmosphere. It is a striking room designed entirely around modern family life.
