The Brief
This kitchen sits in the room that opens onto the garden, under a run of rooflights and white-painted beams. The brief was for wood rather than paint, an island the family could gather around, and plenty of storage that never felt heavy in such a bright room.
We designed the kitchen alongside Lamb Design, who led the interiors for the house.
The Stone Wall
One stone carries the whole cooking wall. XTONE Astana Grey runs from the worktop up the wall and across the top as a header, with a stone shelf floating halfway up and downlights set into the header above the hob.
Oak cabinetry frames the stone on both sides, so the wall reads as a single slab set into the joinery. The Bora hob draws steam down through the hob itself, which keeps the stone clear of an extractor.
Two Oaks
Pale Cotton White oak lines the main run and the wall of tall cupboards. The island and the tall bank opposite are the same oak stained black, so the grain still shows through the darker finish.
The black talls hide an integrated fridge and freezer beside a two-door pantry. Across the room, a pair of tall oak doors opens and slides back into the cabinet on Hawa pocket hinges, leaving deep drawers and shelving open to use. Inside, every cabinet is lined in Cotton White oak veneer.
The Island
The island is the working side of the kitchen: a Franke Mythos sink, an integrated dishwasher and a pull-out recycling bin on one side, with stools on the other. Its 70 mm stone top matches the weight of the black oak below it.
At the far end, an open oak shelf holds baskets within reach of the seats.
Imagining Something Like This?
Talk to the design team behind this kitchen, or start with our Look Book of recent projects. A kitchen of this scale typically represents a cabinetry investment of €40,000–€60,000. Every design is priced to your home and made to order in our own workshop in Gorey.
The Finished Kitchen
Long bar handles in aged brass run the full height of the tall doors and pick up the brass tap on the island. With the stone, the two oaks and the brass doing the work, nothing else in the room needs to compete with the garden. See more of our bespoke kitchens in Ballsbridge.
Questions About This Kitchen
It is XTONE Astana Grey, a sintered porcelain with a natural stone look. Carrying it up the wall as splashback, header and shelf gives the hob wall one continuous surface with no grout lines, and it stands up to heat and splashes behind the hob.
The pale Cotton White oak keeps the main run light under the rooflights. Staining the island and tall bank black gives the room weight and contrast while keeping the same timber, so the two finishes belong together.
The tall oak doors open on Hawa Concepta hide-and-slide hinges and slide back into the cabinet sides. The cupboard stays open while in use without doors swinging into the walkway, then closes flush when the room is tidied.
The Bora hob draws steam and cooking smells down through the hob and ducts them out below the worktop, so no hood interrupts the stone wall.
